In Canada, the western provinces (west of the Rocky mountains) that have the most fires are British Columbia and Alberta. The north west is a territory called the Yukon, which is boreal forest and has much fire potential. East of the rocky mountain range is primarily grasslands, including Saskatchewan, Manitoba – which does not have trees as much as grain-fields. Sometimes there are grass fires (rare) and it is the roots that burn underneath and the land smokes.
